Tourist services centre, Bicycle Museum and multi-activity Centre.

Located on Chongming Island in the middle of the Yangtze delta, the bicycle is based on a simple geometry controlling different physical phenomenon like motion or gravity. Similarly, the project articulates an instable and dynamic spatial equilibrium. The boundaries between the cells are shaped as interconnected tetrahedrons, creating a braced structure minimizing its impact on the floor. This apparatus avoids any pure verticality or exact repetition, reinforcing the feeling of gravity and instable equilibrium. Each cell becomes an open shelter, inducing a spatial continuum blurring the limits between inside and outside. The courtyards, terraces and other residual spaces in between the glazed façade and the building’s limit create an interstice contained by the surrounding landscape. This formal and flexible design can be adapted to different programs or configurations. It shapes the tourist center into a delightful spot upon entering the park, the museum into a square prism emphasizing its solemnity and the multipurpose hall into a free form facing the lake. These three compartments make up a network of different landmarks that create paths and sequences within the park.
