Muscat Landmark, exhibition, library and a central plaza
The new urban landmark in Muscat is a major project for the Sultanate of Oman, as it represents a new urban centre in the heart of the city. The project will reflect Omani history and will be dedicated to future generations.
The landmark will be a simple and pure form. The main design is developed on the basis of double circles (generated by both the mountain and the sea, thus inducing a selfevident iconic shape.
The mineral façade treatment consists of Oman stone with twitted
glass that filters sunlight. The ground floor level will host an Arts gallery and the first level will host the library and the digital library. Depending on the time of the day, the plaza will change its aspect through several water basins reflecting the mountain, the sea and the city. At night time, an exceptional vertical light will give it visibility from the city and from the sea.
