351 studios for students and functional residences

Framing what one wishes to see, shielding from what one does not want to suffer: that is the challenge facing this 351 student studio project built right on the edge of the ring road, porte de Clignancourt in Paris.

On the ring road side, noise, speed: a curved wall, a shield 30 by 100 meters, like giant screen, a signal built into the kinetic landscape of the city as seen from a motor car.

On the Paris side, a green belt, quietness, the sun: backing onto the shield, three curved buildings faced in aluminium. All the apartments are well sheltered within these three prows.

The internal routes are set off by various spaces differing from the monumental entrance halls and shield, to the intimate apartments. Thanks to the armonds shape plan and splayed bay windows, every apartment is south facing, with views towards the university gardens adjacent and the silhouette of Montmartre and the Sacré-Coeur.
On the shield side, the project uses «peri-urban» vocabulary: asphalt, light, advertising. From the dwellings, it is transparency, modern comfort, living space.
