Forum des Arènes

1992 / 1994

Arena Forum

Offices for Unesco’s international centre, social housing, as well as transport infrastructure (subway/train station transfer platform , bus/train station transfer platform, car park for commuters, tailer-mounted hopper)

The Arena Forum, an urban project completed after the Arena High School, is for several reasons a very ambititous and important p r o j e c t . First of all, the project is located on the outskirts of the Toulouse cluster, where railway wastelands were previously situated. It embodies the effort to reclassify urban fringes and outskirts, that is one of the most important stakes at the end of the 20th century.
Secondly, the project we are proposing does not represent a regional, insipid and outside window dressing; it is an architectural project which assumes the violence of the context it fits in and which frees its lines of force, as well as a poetic language, should it be that of the outskirts .
Despite a very reduced budget, we have made the best of transport infrastructures (subway/train station transfer platform, bus/train station transfer platform, car park for commuters, tailer-mounted hopper), as well as of complex and imbricated superstructure programmes (hall of residence, Unesco international centre, social housing and offices).
